A WORD OF ADVICE FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE FIRST TIMER VISITORS TO
Pierre-de-Bresse. The very large moated 17th century Chateau/ Castle is set in large grounds with deer, goats and many wild fowl roaming free. The main building is in a large U shape with entrance in the centre. (See main photo). One half has been recently renovated while work continues on the remaining parts giving you a chance to see what the original floors walls and ceilings were like. There are, as you go around the building, many artistic displays to see. As I have stated before, well worth a visit.
Beaune. Still has parts of the City Gateways and old narrow cobbled streets. A wealth of restaurants and shops. One place you should see is the Hotel-Dieu (Hospital). The side beds that line the main hall are impressive and originally built to administer to the poor and nobility alike. Look up at the ceiling artworks and leaded light windows. Outside the building is impressive with very high roofs with amazing patterned tiles. This patterned roof scene is now very common to
Louhans. The market town to end all markets. Well worth a visit, but do go early. The main street is lined with 157 medieval arches and the whole area is full of market stools with everything you can think of on them. Maybe not for the squeamish is the animal market on the outskirts. Louhans also has its own Hotel-Dieu built between the 17th and 18th century.
All in all plenty of interesting sights to fill your days, and what we have listed here is just a very small selection. Enjoy.
